Early Completion Option

Early Completion Option (ECO): Expedited Induction Program--

2. Early Completion Option
The Early Completion Option is an expedited one year program for teachers who have prior teaching experience and have demonstrated exemplary practice.  Although a minimum of two years of experience is required for application, evidence of exemplary practice, rather than number of years of teaching experience, is the primary criteria for acceptance. This option is designed for teachers who:

  • are in their first year of eligibility for the BTSA Program
  • have demonstrated exemplary practice in their own classroom over a period of two years or more (one year may be waived if the preliminary credential was earned through an Intern Program)
  •  are highly self-motivated, organized and able to complete a rigorous program in a shortened time without detracting from the educational experience provided to their students
  • have the support of their site administrator to participate in the expedited program

Attendance at the ECO Information Session is mandatory to be eligible to apply.  Application by the posted deadline and acceptance into the program are required in order to participate in this option.

Please note: participants accepted into the Early Completion Option will be transitioned to the regular program should they not complete all requirements as scheduled.

Eligibility to Participate:

  • Application submitted prior to deadline (including recommendation from the site administrator)
  • Formal acceptance into the program (you must have the acceptance letter on file behind Tab 1)

Requirements will be reviewed at the Early Completion Option Information Session. Please register for 1.1 Year 1 Orientation and the 1.1a ECO Information Session on the same date.

12 13 ECO Applications are anticipated to be available the last week of July.

The BTSA Induction Program is committed to providing participating teachers with high quality professional development and support to assist them in meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a Professional Clear Teaching Credential. The Los Angeles Unified School District BTSA Induction Program provides the following support and assessment components

BTSA Induction Orientation

Participating teachers must attend a BTSA Orientation at the beginning of both years of the BTSA Induction Program.  During the Orientation, participating teachers will receive specific information regarding all program components.

 Support Providers

Each participating teacher is paired with a highly trained Support Provider taking into consideration credentials held; subject matter knowledge; orientation to learning; relevant experience; current assignments; and geographic proximity.  Support Providers develop a confidential relationship of support and assistance with the participating teachers they serve.  Support provided includes, but is not limited to, weekly visits to observe teaching practice and provide feedback, demonstration lessons, assistance with planning lessons and assessing student learning, and release time to observe others.

ECO participants must be matched with a Support Provider early in the first semester. Please see your site administrator for assistance.

Induction Portfolio

An Induction Portfolio is a comprehensive collection of authentic assessment activities compiled to demonstrate and document participating teachers’ attainment of each element of the Induction. Standards.  Participating teachers will submit their completed portfolios for review at the end of their Induction Program as evidence of completion of all program requirements necessary to apply for a Professional Clear Teaching Credential. Participants will also complete a yearly portfolio review to verify that all requirements are being met.

Program Evaluation

The BTSA/Induction Program staff believes that continuous improvement based upon the on-going feedback from all program stakeholders is necessary to provide an exceptional program that meets the needs of its participants.  With this in mind, all participants will complete multiple program evaluations throughout the year in regards to various program components.  This feedback will be analyzed and shared with all stakeholders and improvements to the program will be made.
